In this chapter, we will do some simple sight reading.
Sight reading is the skill of reading and performing a piece of music that the reader has not seen before. Just as you can make sense of these words as you read them for the first time, a good musician knows how to make sense of written music the first time he or she sees it.
- It's an important skill that good musicians practice on a regular basis.
- Professional musicians are often asked to record or perform music without being given lots of time to practice it.
In this chapter you will see ten short musical samples. You will be asked to answer questions about the notes and the rhythms that you see on the screen. If you play an instrument, you may want to use it to help you with your sight reading. But don't worry - you won't need an instrument to answer the questions in this chapter!
