In this chapter, you will see a series of short tonal patterns. Each question includes an image of a two-note pattern. Look at the image, and ask yourself a few questions:
- Is the pattern in treble clef (high pitched) or in bass clef (low pitched)?
- Is the first note higher or lower than the second note? (Does the pattern go up or down?)
- Is the interval a step, a small skip, a big skip, or a repeat?
When you think you know how the pattern should sound, play the recording. The pattern that you hear will either be the same on that you see, or it will be different. Your job is to determine: does the pattern that you see match the one that you hear? For each question, you will select “yes” or “no.”
If you haven't already completed the "Steps, Skips, Repeats" chapter, you might find it to be good practice for this one.
